THE RETURN OF THE PLANNERS

Friday 1st September 2006

Mendip District Council (MDC) has received a fresh planning application from Stonewall Manor Limited (Link to planning application).   We hear that there is little difference between the new plans and those withdrawn on 19 July 2006.  Once the application has been registered notices will be sent out and the full plans may be inspected at MDC offices, Shepton Mallet.

Thursday 21st September 2006

The new application No. 071109/013 has been registered and notices issued.  As suspected, Stonewall Manor Limited intends to build 2 x 2-bedroom houses and 4 x 3-bedroom houses on just part of the site, effectively leaving the rest potentially open to further development.  Comments and objections to the application have to be lodged with MDC within 21 days of today, i.e. 12 October 2006.

POLKA today examined the new plans for housing development on the old orchard and tennis court.  With cynical indifference or sheer laziness, the architect has left the new plans still showing the great beech tree which the developers’ hired hands cut down on Bank Holiday Monday 28 August 2006 (see Historic Orchard Destroyed LINK ).  In light of this inaccuracy, which is misleading, POLKA members are scrutinising the plans for other errors.

There appear to be few changes from the original plans.  The only revisions tabled by the architects relate to a change of building materials:
